SYSTON FESTIVAL 9th October 2011

The first festival of the season saw the squad travel to Syston for a great day of rugby and coming away undefeated.

The day opened with a match against Leicester Forest and whilst the boys were slow to start they soon got into their stride with some outstanding tackling from Sansome. The 10-0 scoreline, with excellent tries from Sansome and Catt, was a reflection of Hinckleys dominance as the match went on.

The second game of the day saw the team up against Vipers and with the team already fired up from the first game they started as they had finished the previous match with well connected passing that opened the opposition up couple with great tackling led again by that man Sansome to keep Vipers attacks at bay. The tries soon flowed with Babb(2), Catt, Lockett and Hubbard to close out a convincing performance 25-0.

Next came Market Bosworth and this saw both team playing their hearts out to take the victory, the excellent attacking play on both side was only bettered by outstanding defensive work which resulted in a hard fought 0-0.

And so onto the final game of the day against hosts Syston. It was another hard fought battle where opportunities for try scoring were limited. Eventually though Hinckley took an opportunity and moved into the lead through an outstanding individual try by Hubbard. Syston rallied and Hinckley dug in to hold off a sustained attacking phase by Syston. Despite excellent defensive work the closing minutes saw Syston score to finish the game 5-5. Despite taking the extra point for first try the boys narrowly missed out by 1 point from winning the league. A more than respectable 2nd place and the first silverware of the season was a reflection on the hard work and skill demonstrated by all the players.
