Hinckley U9s travelled to neighbours Market Bosworth on 23 October for an unscheduled friendly.

Match 1 - Market Bosworth 15-5 Hinckley

The match started positively for Hinckley after a knock forward in the Market Bosworth half and Hinckley were awarded the scrum. The next 10 minutes of play was all in the Market Bosworth half as Hinckley dominated possession. An unfortunate lapse in concentration however saw the home team break away from the opposition and Market Bosworth were first on the scoreboard. Hinckley immediately took the momentum again, but were unable to break through before the half time whistle.

In the second half the home team took the initiative and their second try shortly after kick off. Burton seized his chance immediately after the re-start and out-ran the chasing Bosworth players to score Hinckley’s only try of the match. Possession then remained very even for the rest of the match with some strong tackling for the visitors by Inman and Colloby. Eventually, Market Bosworth scored the final try, however from a scrum 5 yards from the Hinckley line.

Match 2 – Market Bosworth 5-15 Hinckley

A new line-up for Hinckley saw the visitors turn the tables for the second match, despite Market Bosworth taking the first points with their opening try. Soon after however, Hinckley won the scrum and proceeded with a long drive, led by Thomas. Market Bosworth once again managed to turn over the Hinckley ball right on the line, only to give away another scrum with a knock forward. Hinckley once again chose to drive the ball forward before being pushed into touch right on the half time whistle.

The second half saw some more fantastic driving mauls involving Thomas, leading to his first try and points on the board for Hinckley. This proved to be the motivation Hinckley needed as Hicks scored two tries, both from blistering runs leaving the opposition trailing, and securing the win for Hinckley.

Match 3 – Market Bosworth 25-0 Hinckley

The third game saw Hinckley struggle with possession as the opposition consistently stole the ball with effective driving over. To add to Hinckley’s woes they were interrupted twice at the back as they passed the ball down the line only for Market Bosworth to run onto the ball and score twice. The defeat could have been worse for Hinckley had it not been for some good tackling from Hubbard and Sansome.

Match 4 – Market Bosworth 15-10 Hinckley

Market Bosworth were first to score again in this final game as they won a free pass for an offside decision and ran the ball over for a try. Market Bosworth came close again after the re-start after a three quarter length run by one of their players who was stopped by Waterhouse as he drove him into touch. From the lineout, Thomas began a long driving maul, before intelligently passing the ball out to Burton who sprinted for the line unstopped for his first try. Shortly after, Market Bosworth won a scrum in the Hinckley half which started a move that saw them score their third try. Catt defended brilliantly as he drove a Bosworth player half the width of the pitch to push the ball into touch, before Burton set off on another of his evasive runs to score Hinckley’s second just before the whistle.
