Mixed Fortunes for Hinckley Tigers and Hinckley Hornets

Hinckley Tigers in Group A were drawn against Rugby St Andrews, Market Harborough and Burton; and Hinckley Hornets in Group B were drawn against Worcester, Market Harborough and Lutterworth.

Hinckley Tigers faced Rugby St Andrews in their first game and were runaway winners 7 - 1 with Babb scoring a hatrick, Hubbard 2, Lockett 1 and Poulsen 1 (his first try for Hinckley). In their second match Hinckley Tigers were again clear winners, beating Market Harborough 4 - 1 with Grewcock 2, Halka 1 and Lockett 1 scoring. In their final match of the group stage against Burton an evenly matched game resulted in a 2 - 2 draw with Babb and Lockett both scoring again. Hinckley Tigers were group winners.

Hinckley Hornets faced closer matches, winning their first match against Lutterworth 1 - 0, Hicks the try scorer, losing 1 - 0 against Worcester and a 2 - 2 draw against Market Harborough with Sansome and Hicks the scorers. Hinckley Hornets were placed second in their group.

It was now time for the semi finals, with group winners Hinckley Tigers facing their 'arch enemies' second placed Hinckley Hornets in a close fought battle with the Tigers the eventual winners 3 - 2, Reed and Hubbard (2) scoring for the Tigers and Thomas scoring for the Hornets.

The losers of each semi final then battled it out in the Shield Final with the Hornets convincing winners against Burton 6 - 1 with try scorers Johnson, Hicks 2 and Thomas 3. A well deserved victory for Hinckley Hornets. Unfortunately, against Worcester in the Cup Final it wasn't to be a clean sweep for Hinckley with the Tigers losing 4 - 0.
Overall some exceptional play from both teams with all players enjoying their days rugby.
