Hinckley under 12’s large squad faced the small visiting squad of Old Laurentian from Rugby Warwickshire.

Hinckley again split their large squad in half to play a tri-tournament with Old Laurentian, on a cold and wet Sunday morning.
Hinckley Grey kicked off proceedings against the unknown Rugby side. Hinckley quickly took control of the game, putting the visitors under constant pressure from excellent line speed and tackle count. Four first half try’s from Whittingham, Drakeford, Barnes and Hutton followed whole team involvement and turn over ball from the forwards, ensured Hinckley went into the break with a comfortable lead. Hinckley continued to pressure Old Laurentian not letting the visitors through their solid defense. Three further try’s from Whittingham, Drakeford and Hutton, again resulting from excellent teamwork by the entire team put the game well out of the visitors reach. Final score 7-0 to Hinckley Grey.
The second game of the morning was the much anticipated Hinckley Grey versus Hinckley Yellow. The tackle count from both teams was the deciding factor, with Hinckley Grey winning the tackle battle and running in four try’s from Drakeford (2), Smith & Hurley-Smith. Final score Hinckley Grey 4 Hinckley Yellow 0.
The third game of the morning saw Hinckley Yellow take on a refreshed Old Laurentian. Both sides were cold and wet, but gave there all in the muddy conditions. Hinckley took the lead following constant recycling of the ball from the forwards and Hutton finally grounding the ball over the line. Many knock-ons and dropped balls from both sides due to the wet conditions, kept the score 1-0 to Hinckley at half time. Old Laurentian came out in the second half much more fired up and ran in two try’s from either wing to take the lead. Hinckley kept on battling, resulting in a well-earned equaliser when Duggins crashed over with a minute to go. A draw looked likely with Hinckley’s forwards driving the visitors off the ball, only for it to picked up by a quick thinking Old Laurentian player and running in the winner during last play of the game. Hinckley extremely unlucky to lose the final game 2-3.
All Hinckley players should be proud of their efforts today, and did not let the conditions affect their performance.
