Hinckley Under 12’s entered two teams (Wasps and Bees) into this year’s county cup.

Wasps travelled to Leicester lions to face Market Harborough B, Leicester Forest and Oadby Wyggs.
First game of the morning against Harborough’s B team gave the Wasps a much needed confidence boost, easily running in 7 try’s without conceding. Hinckley received the kick off and immediately attacked Harborough’s defensive line, the ball moved to the right wing and then back along the line for Hutton to score. Harborough elected to kick the restart only for Hinckley to run back at them moving the ball through all of their backs and winger Ellershaw scoring in the corner. Harborough then changed tactics and elected to receive the restart kick, only to be over powered by the Hinckley forwards and Hutton going over for the score. Two try’s from Salisbury put Hinckley Wasps firmly in control going into the interval 5-0 up. Salisbury completed his hat trick following a lovely switch move. Smith made it 7-0 after the forwards again won the scrum against the head.

Next up was the reigning County Champions Leicester Forest. Hinckley lost the toss and Forest elected to receive the Kick. Hinckley immediately pressured the big and strong Forest team. Goodwin intercepted a pass 10 meters out and raced for the line to go 1-0 up. Forest then turned up the pressure, their big strong lads finally breaking through Hinckley’s excellent defense to go into the break 2-1 up. The second half was an equally contested battle with both teams unlucky not to score. Leicester Forest however were just too strong for Hinckley and ran in a final try during last play of the game. Hinckley 1 Forest 3.

Hinckley and Oadby Wyggs both with one win and one loss each, the final game would decide who went through to the Cup on finals day and who would compete for the bowl. A pre match pep talk from coach Barnes got the Hinckley boys fired up for the all-important final game of the day. Hinckley Wasps got off to a strong start with Ellershaw going over in the corner for the important first try. Oadby could not break through Hinckley solid defense with every single player tackling their hearts out. Hinckley continued to win scrum after scrum putting them firmly in control, try’s from Hutton and Moore giving Wasps a comfortable 3-0 lead at half time. The second half was well contested, with Hinckley defending their try line, Oadby unable to get the ball over. Moore scored his second late in the half to put the game out of Oadby’s reach. Final score 4-0 to Hinckley wasps making sure they contest for the Cup on finals day.

Hinckley Bees traveled to Melton Mowbray to face Market Bosworth, South Leicester and Melton.
Melton was always going to be a tough opener but kids showed great spirit to never give up chasing for an equalizing try which deservedly got when A. Whittingham produced a typical strong run to score in corner with last play of match, drawing one apiece.
South Leicester up next who were a fair bit bigger but Hinckley were soon on top in the first half scoring early, more try's should have followed but the Bees did not take their chances!! South came back well to their credit in 2nd half to equalise but Giles quickly restored the lead, scooping up loose ball and racing half the length of the pitch. Unfortunately we let South equalise again but another great effort, drawing two each.
Up last, Bosworth who were definitely strongest opposition of morning. Hinckley Bees gave them too much space and respect leaking try's regularly. The second half saw much more commitment all round resulting in Bozzy only scoring few more try's. Hinckley Bees progress to compete for the Bowl on finals day.
A fantastic whole squad effort resulting in proud coaches and parents, keep up the good progress.
