Hinckley Under 12's unbeaten at Nuneaton festival, conceding only one try in five games.

Nuneaton festival saw 6 teams play each other to decide who took home the silverware.

Hinckley’s first game of the morning against old foes Ashby, saw Hinckley meaning business from the start. Hinckley’s historic slow start put to bed, the boys came out of the blocks ready for a contest. They quickly presurised Ashby, not letting their strong runners get started and tackled them out of the game. An early try from Hurley-Smith gave Hinckley confidence and they defended superbly with excellent line speed pinning Ashby back. Second half try’s from Smith and Salisbury put the game out of reach and a convincing victory against a strong Ashby side.

Next up was the stronger of Nuneaton’s two teams, although always in control Hinckley made hard work of the game and conceded their only try of the day. Two try’s from Moore secured the victory and Hinckley realised that they cannot take their foot off the gas.

Hinckley’s third game of the morning against a big Derby side saw Hinckley learn from their mistakes in the previous game. The Hinckley boys kept the pressure on and scored five unanswered try’s in the first half (Drakeford, Salisbury and a hat trick from Barnes). The game was quickly finished off early in the second half with another try by Barnes
.
Fourth game of the day was against the unknown Kenilworth. Hinckley’s confidence still high displayed some excellent rugby from the whole squad and took control of the game from the start. Kenilworth’s big forwards could not break through Hinckley’s defense, and could not compete with Hinckley’s fast and strong running. Five try’s from Moore, Hutton and a hat trick from Drakeford kept the unbeaten record alive.

Final game of the day against the weaker Nuneaton side had Hinckley knowing a win would secure the silverware. The Boys treated the game with respect and continued to play their best rugby to date. Nuneaton could not compete with the well drilled Hinckley side. Six unanswered try’s (Drakeford 2, Moore 2, Barnes and Toon) finished the game early and crowned Hinckley Nuneaton festival champions.

Another excellent display of rugby from the whole squad puts the boys in a good position for the County Cup next week.
