Game 2

U16,s second outing of the new season, saw the team away again. On arrival the opposition only had 14 players available so in rotation Hinckley players stepped up to fill in the numbers and ensure a full 15,s game could take place. Easing back into the season the game was split into 3 , 20 minute periods.
Hinckley kicked off and the initial kick chase was followed with good pressure but stout defence saw them repelled with good contesting from both teams around the pitch OL,s broke the line and applied some good pressure, however Hinckley were not deterred and turned the ball over finally getting it out to the wing, great break by the left wing was stopped around the OL,s 22 but Hinckley’s right wing had looped around to support his opposite number and after a few exchanges was over to score the first try of game after 18 minutes this was duly converted 0-7 Hinckley at the first break.
The second period started much the same as the first but with Hinckley guilty over turning over to many balls at the break down. Eventually the price paid as OL made a breakthrough poorly positioned Hinckley defensive line to score their first try, converted the scores now level at 7-7. The ebb and flow continued with the ball contested fiercely all over the pitch by both teams, compounded by some curious kicking decisions, finally the whistle went and both teams took a breath.
Final 3rd and Hinckley were out of the traps chasing everything, what was lost in their shape, was made up for by tenacity. The pressure finally told and the ball turned over in their own 22 made it’s way to the full back, 4 tackles broken and powerful too, along the sideline saw him run in a fine individual score, Hinckley led 7-14, having broken through once this was the repeated through the middle by the right wing who cut inside and through the line just 3 minutes later to score in the middle , converted Hinckley leading 7-21. Hinckley didn’t let up winning a penalty on the opposition 22 and electing to kick, successful conversion took the score out to 7-24.
Another successful trip away for the boys with players trying new positions this week. Now for 2 weeks training ready for the first home game against old foes Old Coventrians. Well done a hard well fought victory.
