Old Coventrians

Hinckley U16s welcomed a typically strong Old Coventrians side on a bleak morning which would initially dictate a tough, arm wrestle of a game to begin with.
Hinckley began well putting Old Covs under plenty of pressure winning the territory battle and contest for possession at the breakdown but struggled to put enough phases together to put points on the board early. Old Covs responded well with some strong runs and good support with only excellent scramble defence helping Hinckley keep the scoreboard neutral. It continued to and fro in the same manner for much of the half until a couple of unforced errors game the visitors a chance within the red zone - ultimately some strong pick and go forced the first score - 0-5 to Old Covs after a missed conversion took us into half time.
With the conditions easing Old Covs took advantage of a lapse in early concentration shortly after the restart as a short kick and chase was well punished by a weaving run to score under the posts and make it 0-12 with a conversion.
From here Hinckley forwards took more control and started dominating the collisions and breakdown once more with a well worked try being the reward, the comeback was on at 5-12.
Hinckley now had the ascendancy and build phase after phase of pressure to create an opportunity for another jinking run from the centre, dotting down well under the posts - a nervy conversion made it 12-12 with 5 minutes to go.
Both sides battled hard but ultimately the draw stood at full time, which was a fair result given the strength of Old Coventrians efforts in the first half.
