Barkers away
Following a not so strong performance at home last week we needed to get back to putting ourselves about the pitch with all in effort. Sadly after only a few minutes we were a try down when an initial attack came straight down the line. Thankfully the lads got together and began to put some phases together and equalised. Repeated attacks from Barkers and then Hinckley saw the game go from a try down to an equaliser. There was no obvious separation between the teams. By half time the score was 19:19 and the game was clearly always going to be tight. If Barkers were slightly stronger in the back line, Hinckley seemed to be stronger in the forwards with some of our strongest scrummaging yet this season. We began to use our strengths in the second half with a number of good attacks from the back row and a few unconventional attacks from open play. But with a try to Barkers then again a try to Hinckley the game remained even. Towards the end of the game Hinckley began to throw the ball around making short ball attacks close to the breakdown. This was working until a quick turnover allowed Barkers to run one in the corner 34:29. With the last 5-10 minutes left of the game it felt like we might just make it. We got very close, but not over the line, despite the result it was good to see a performance this week. Winning or losing doesn’t often matter particularly with games like today’s, we just have to keep working hard for each other. A good team performance, well done
