A good morning of Rugby

Lutterworth at home and a game which some of us have been looking forward to for some time given we haven’t played then for a few years. Plus our old team mate was in the mix. Conditions wet but warm and plenty of opportunity.
The game started at a good pace with pressure from the whistle on Lutterworth, after a few minutes of carries from Hinckley Lutterworth defended well but the pressure was telling. Following sustained attacks Hinckley were awarded a penalty 10m from the line after 5minutes. 3:0 on the board nerves were gone. The game continued and Hinckley looked dominant in the pack but despite this Lutterworth came back with a simple try and conversion. 10minutes in 3:7, this try was against the play early on.
The restart was good and with the strength which we had shown it was time to bag some points. Soon came a well worked try through the hands in the backs and good team support, the conversion was good. 8:7 and this was shaping for a tight score line. Hinckley were maintaining good strength in the breakdown and once again though open play and forwards and backs combining well a second try came which was confidently converted. 15:7
Having had no injuries first half and only 1 substitution used before half time, all 7 Hinckley subs needed to get on. With fresh legs on and lads keen to play the contest remain tight. Lutterworth came back with a try on 45 minutes which was dubious as it was with a double movement and spill before the line. The try was awarded but conversion missed 15:12. The game became a bit messy from both sides but there was still time to play. Again following sustained pressure in the mid field Hinckley came back with a great draw and pass run with the ball alive and a winger’s try in the corner 10 minutes left 20:12.
Lutterworth then began the fight to win with repeated runs and attacks with a trickle of two or three penalties to the corner Lutterworth decided to kick for goal needing at least 9 to win. A close enough penalty then was kicked and the Game got tighter 20:15 with 60 minutes played. A final few minutes with players and supporters wondering what might happen the ref blew the whistle and the game was won.
I think we all enjoyed this game, a great one to watch and play in for all. It was hopefully the last of the U15’s game rules following Covid and we look forward to the new U16’s game in the New Year where we can compete in the lineout.
Well done to everyone today, not just the lads on the pitch but all the supporters as well.
A good morning of rugby, Dan
