A local derby as Hinckley U16 welcomed Nuneaton. With a team of 14 lads only, Nuneaton were already up against it and only a front row lend ensured an even scrum and numbers contest across the board to start the match.
With the wind at their backs Nuneaton started well, some strong carrying and sustained pressure keeping the Hinckley defence honest. After soaking this up Hinckley finally found some time on the ball and got their attack going, but a lack of straight line running and some poor handling meant opportunities were squandered - however the first try came after some good draw and pass to send the fullback in comfortably for the first unconverted try.
It was much of the same in the second half as Hinckley forwards got to grips with the game and worked through their processes much better, with a couple of cleaver quick taps from penalties gaining some easy metres Hinckley struck first with a coast to coast run, converted to take it to a 12 point lead. Pressure and tired legs were now causing Nuneaton problems despite their heads never dropping it was oncoming traffic for much of the remaining half, only Hinckley perceived poor discipline keeping them in the game. A strong pick and go try from the base of a ruck followed by another well worked finish out wide meant a final score of 22-0 to Hinckley and another win with solid defence sealing the victory - well done lads!
Hats off to the volunteers who offered to put the opposition jersey on today to keep the match going, it takes a lot of courage and character to do that in any situation so we’ll done to you individuals ???? on to the next..K
