Bosworth away

After Lichfield had cancelled, we found a new fixture against Market Bosworth Away for our first game of this new season. Nothing like a local derby to get things going! Rain doesn’t stop play but following a big down pour driving across for the game, both teams were keen to get the fixture underway. Traditionally, a tight game between the sides, Hinckley started well and were looking to attack. Following good phases of attack we got the ball to our wingers and the score was made. A good conversion made the opening score 0:7 and game on. Both teams were working hard and shortly after our try Bosworth came back to show they can score good tries as well. The conversion was missed and the game got started again at 5:7. Both teams were working the ball through hands but neither was able to repeat the ease of the early tries. Hinckley turned the ball over a few times when the attack was in their favour and the lads just needed a little bit more control at the breakdown. But Bosworth were doing well to spoil our game, which is probably symptomatic of not playing full 15 contact game for @18 months. 10 minutes before the end of the first half we passed the ball again well and manged to find an overlap and a good worked try Hinckley with conversion saw the score at 5:14. Just before the whistle Bosworth made a strong attack in the middle of the field to earn themselves a penalty which was converted to 8:14 at Half time.
The second half and the message was to secure the ball better and work to give the backs increased and better ball. Following a good attack through the middle, Hinckley started well and scored with simple conversion under the posts 8:21. This was followed by another attack shortly after, again try and conversion from good hands and run in from the back line 8:28. Some areas of the game were becoming a little tired and whilst Bosworth came on hard towards the end our lads had won the game. A dubious try given to Bosworth close to the end, narrowed the gap 13:28.
In summary our first game back and we performed well with all players slotting in to their roles, positions and played well. We have lots to work on in training and plenty of opportunities to improve. A win, a great start to the season and a good chance to be proud of the lads who can move on from a season lost. We look forward to a rest and recovery before our Thursday session and preparation for Old Leams next week away.
