Sunny south

Both teams started well but South Leics seemed to have early momentum to put Hinckley under pressure in their 22 meter area. For a good few minutes Hinckley absorbed a number of attacks but the defence held strong until a break away to the half way line. Following a lineout @11miunutes played and a small break Hinckley’s mid field put together a few passes to release a quick show and go through the opposition, to score the first points of the game under the posts. Conversion made 7:0 and a good start defensively as well as in attack. The restart saw the game shift back and forth up and down both ends of the field, although Hinckley had plenty of ball it was lost in the pass mid field a few times, letting South Leics off good Hinckley attacking phases. After 22minutes Hinckley had got back to the South Leics 22m area and a strong back row run gave Hinckley a second try, unconverted 12:0. Moments later South Leics came back with a run down the line, try and conversion made 12:7 (25 minutes played). The restart came and play continued with tight defence and work rate from both sides stayed high.
Half time Hinckley made 6 substitutions to provide all players with the half game rule, which gave us an opportunity to switch play with fresh legs.
After a few foiled attacks under pressure mid field Hinckley managed a strong attack and run to get a well-deserved try under the posts after 13 minutes of play. Conversion made 19:7. In quick succession we made it back once more near to the south 22m and a penalty decision gave us another 3 points kicked 22:7. Hinckley began then to run hard and had the belief to score tries, two came within 3 minutes one in the corner and a second midfield with one converted to make it 34:7.
With 10 minutes to play Hinckley began to look tired and South Leics capitalised on a 5-10m penalty tap and go, scoring without conversion 34:12. The restart came and so did South with a final try scored in the dying seconds of the game 34:17 with the conversion missed.
The lads have played a number of big games this season and today they needed to chalk up a win. I’m pleased they did this and got the result they all worked hard for.
Well done all
