Soggy in Syston

Three teams made up the opposition at the festival today, thought the biggest challenge was keeping the kids warm and dry more than the opponents!

MATCH 1 VS. Leicester Forest East Squad 1
No half time, just 10 minutes of play. Hinckley got under way with a score from Curless. LFE cam back and scored try for try. Middleton added four, with further tries from Curless, Abrahamson and Marsden. Tagging was sparse as the short/wide pitches didn't allow time for defending. Bennett and Kime get mentions for defensive work. 8-7 to Hinckley at full time.

MATCH 2 VS. Leicester Forest East Squad 2
Again, same format of no half time. Simmons opened the scoring, but was noted for his frantic defence, taking 11 tags in this match. Stockton, Gamble and Palmer added their tries, whilst Cooper kept up a strong tagging defence. Final score 8-5 to Hinckley.

MATCH 3 VS. Barker Butts Squad 1
Squad 2 didn't get a chance to play Barker Butts as BB only had a few players. Hinckley again opened the try scoring with tries going to Curless, Middleton, Moore and Abrahamson. Curless and Bennett put on a great display of tagging, keeping BB struggling in their own half, losing possession more than once. Final score was 8-6 to Hinckley.

MATCH 4 VS. Syston Squad 1
Middleton, Moore, Marston and Bennett all had tries in this one half fixture which again saw few tags as the ball was run end to end. On the blow of the whistle, the scoreline was 8-9 to Syston, an unlucky result given the effort of all who played.

MATCH 5 VS. Syston Squad 2
Hinckley met with a physical Syston squad in this match but kept chins up and played a good clean game. Tries went to Simmons, Stockton and Dunne, with tagging rates high for Simmons, Causon and Palmer. Final score was 9-4 to Syston which seems an unfair reflection of the commitment and drive of the squad.

Well done all those who played and many thanks to the huddle of soggy parents who kept the kids warm, dry, fed and motivated!
