Hinckley U13’s - Melbourne v Hinckley 13’s

Hinckley U14’s- vs Old Coventrians
Hinckley made a bright start winning an early scrum from a knock on and Bradbury went over the line for easy try within the first few minutes. 5-0 The re-start again went the home side’s way with Old Cov’s giving away a penalty for piling over the top in their keenness to win the ball. Bradbury put in a huge kick which he chased himself and a desperate Old Cov full-back had to hurriedly clear their lines. Hinckley continued to attack and Roberts was nearly in twice but the critical pass was not accurate enough in the end. A cracking kick from Baker gave Hinckley an advantageous position and they were all over Old Cov at the line-out, winning a penalty for continued infringements from the Old Cov pack. Hinckley broke with tradition upon viewing the sizable forwards and chose to spin the ball out to the backs which turned out to be the correct decision as Tuffin bagged a try in the corner. 10-0. It was only a matter of time before Old Cov’s superior size took it’s toll and the forwards powered over the line for their first try just before half time. 10-5.
Second half: Old Covs won line out from the drop out as Hinckley shied away from the ball, their confidence seemed to have dropped and Old Cov’s took advantage of this getting a 2nd try in the corner after Hinckley were guilty of watching the runner rather than committing to the tackle. 10-10. Again, Old Cov’s runners looked strong and but Bradbury, like he did in the first 5 minutes, made another tackle saving a certain try and then managed to stop the big No.8 from scoring by holding him up over the line. Old Cov’s forward’s power eventually told again and they scored their 3rd try with little opposition. 10-15. At least the Hinckley scrum continued to remain solid giving a boost to the team. Hinckley rallied from the re-start and got a scrum in a great position, but were unable to penetrate the Old Cov defensive line. More ferocious tackling ensued with Branson snuffing out a dangerous threat but the ball went loose and was hacked down field by Old Cov’s, Rowe just getting back in time to avoid the try. Hinckley then kept the pressure on and kept the visitors pinned in their own half for a good 10 mins but unfortunately could not convert their possession into points. Hinckley attacked with good running from Lunn, White, Wilkin & Collings with Jackson & Ames skilfully keeping the ball alive but Old Cov’s were equal to everything and against the run of play managed a breakaway try to consolidate their lead and frustrate the Hinckley team who came so close to equalising.
Final score 10-20 to Old Coventrians.
