Our President Paul Green has passed away after a long battle with illness.

After a long battle with illness, our President Paul Green has passed away. He was surrounded by his close family and died peacefully.

Paul has been a great servant of Hinckley Rugby Club and Leicestershire Rugby Union. For HRFC, he played over 400 games and captained a most successful period during the mid to late nineties. He was a very popular captain with his peers and especially handy with the port and brandies after matches. On the field he was a fierce competitor, great scrummager and ball carrier. It was his ability to rally his team on and off the field which was his greatest skill.

He had major success with Leicestershire County and was known to be a superb tourist and a great tour judge. He was much loved by his fellow county players.

Paul loved his annual (sometimes twice annual) tour to France with Hinckley 3rd team. He made life long friends there. His performances as the tour judge were epic.

After his playing days were complete, he proved himself to be a more than competent administrator. He served on both the Hinckley and Leicester County committees. For Hinckley, after many years on committee, he became Chairman from 2005-2008 and was key in the transition of the club from amateur to semi-professional. He used his skill to convince a number of the members that this was the way forward. He has also tried to instil change into the county admin set up as well.

Paul Green was a key member of Hinckley RFC, without him we would not where we are today. He has done a great job in his 1st year as President and made his presence felt even though we hadn't kicked a ball in anger. In fact, his final act at HRFC was a radio interview at the club 2 weeks ago giving his support for our "500 Free School Meals A Day" project.

He will be sorely missed at Hinckley RFC - a great player, Captain, Chairman and President. It is so sad to see him go and we will miss him very dearly.

Bon voyage Captain!

Rest in peace.

Love ya!

HRFC
