HInckley welcome Sedgley Park for Round 4 of National 2 North. Once again, there were a number of changes to the Hinckley side. Out went Mark Deaville (holiday), Ben Avent, Alex Branson, Joe Glover, Mitch Culpin (injury) and Mark Lord (rested). In their place the Wasps trio of Ehize Ehozide, Jacob Umaga and Connor Eastgate started whilst Tom Hilyer and Conor Steptoe made first starts of the season, with Callum Rowe making his first competitive appearance of the bench, having played for the 2s on Friday night (as did Tom Sanderson)
Playing with the wind in the first half Sedgley Park were first on the board with a try down the blindside. Hinckley then build some good phases of pressure, making ground into the home defence however unforced errors often led to play breaking down. No more did this hurt Hinckley when they were turned over in midfield and in the same phase the visitors ran in a second converted try.
Again, more Hinckley pressure followed, but the final pass or cutting edge wasn't quite there, and after a failed lineout 5 metres out Sedgley again went down the other end and went 21 - 0 up on the stroke of half time.
Into the second half, when the visitors secured a bonus point soon after the break, things could have got ugly for the home side, but as last week, the side rallied, scoring their first try of the day on 56 minutes when George Marsden scored a second try off the bench in two weeks from close range. Eastgate added the conversion. Just 5 minutes later, the Hinckley scrum dominance got some reward with a penalty try, which was again converted.
Disappointingly though, Hinckley couldnt regather the kick off and before they knew it were back under their own posts taking away any slight hope of winning the game which may of existed. However when Umaga went over with 3 minutes to go, the possibility of two bonus points appeared, however a penalty to the visitors in the last minute of the game ended those hopes.
Hinckley continue to improve and play positive rugby, but next weeks trip to Chester has now become a very important one as the Leicester Road side need to get points on the board.
