Hinckley travelled to Chester to begin their second month of their National 2 North campaign. Following last weeks defeat to Sedgley Park, Hinckley made 8 changes for the trip to Cheshire, with the Wasps trio of Eastagte, Umaga and Ehizode unavailable due to A League, and Sam Masseralla, Craig Fillier and Scott Hamilton all injured. Debuts were given to Ben Latimer and Rhodri Tanner and Mitch Lamb made his fifty appearance.
Hinckley dominated early proceedings, with strong driving play setting up a Scoring opportunity for Matthew Fearn, with the try converted by Joe Glover. Glover followed this up with a successful penalty on 18 minutes.
From the kick off however Hinckley struggled to clear their lines and after a couple of Lineouts their own 5 metre line a try was conceded. The missed conversion left the score at 10-5.
Glover missed a second penalty after 28 minutes with the Hinckley scrum on top, although the home kicker did the same a few minutes later. From that point a chess game ensured with a lot of player in the midfield leading up to half time with the only points being a second Chester penalty. Hinckley were unfortunate not to get on more chance of a score before the break when the home side were held up over their line, however the half time whistle was blown.
Hinckley were however first on the board in the second half with a Glover penalty 6 minutes in however a couple of minutes later some disappointing defence from Hinckley gave the home side an opportunity to score a converted try to make it 15-13.
Glover missed a penalty to take the lead again half way through the half, however a couple of minutes later Mark Lord was successful with a penalty from 30 metres, although he also pushed one just to the left a few minutes later.
That ended up being Hinckley's last points scoring opportunities of the afternoon, with two late scorers from Chester giving them a try bonus and Hinckley nothing. Their third try came from a well executed cross kick finished off by a winger, and then with the final play of the game the took an overlap on the other side of the field.
Another frustrating afternoon for Hinckley, as they showed they had the ability to win games but unforced errors again presented openings which the home side took. Next week Hinckley host Caldy.
