Hinckley entertaining Caldy in round 6 of National 2 North and it was another frustrating afternoon. Hinckley once again showed they could test an established side in the league but were unable to turn territory and chances into points. Hinckley in fact had more 22 entries than there visitors, but it is points on the board at the end of the game that count!
Playing into the wind in the first half, Hinckley showed promise and great ambition attacking from their 22. However there progress was held up with 3 kickable penalties being given to Caldy, who were 9 - 0 up after 15 minutes.
Then a key moment in the game - a deep kick was knocked into touch and from the resulting lineout the visitors went over the line, with the conversion added, already Hinckley had a up hill climb on 22 minutes.
A number of opportunities were lost before half time, but soon after the break captain Alex Salt drove over from close range, with Connor Eastgate adding the conversion, reducing the deficit to 9, however the visitors scored again to extend the lead back to 12.
That was the final score of the afternoon, both sides showed endeavour and had opportunities. In all truth, an underwhelming afternoon all around. Next week is a trip to Lancashire to take on Preston Grasshoppers.
