Hinckleys winning run extended to 5 in a row on Saturday with their second bonus point win of the season at Luctonians. Hinckleys team saw a first start for Alex Crocker at 9, whilst Scott Hamilton returned to the starting line up. Rob Bryant made his first appearance in a squad this season on the bench.
The first half saw Hinckley play some of their best rugby of the season on a cold but still day, with a number of line breaks creating opportunities, but disappointedly a lack of composure let them down. The only score of the half came from Conor Buillvant, who ran in from half way after the visitors used turnover ball from a kick well.
The early period of the second half showed similar intent, with a much needed second score coming just 4 minutes after the result, when Hamilton made a break and put Buillvant in for this second.
On 57 minutes, the Hinckley pack showed their strength scoring a penalty try, converted by Jacob Umaga to take the score to 17-0, however then came a swing in the game, with some much better rugby being produced by the home side, leading to a try next to the posts with 14 minutes to play. 7 minutes later they got a second and with both being converted, the game was left at 17-14.
However Hinckley played the final moments sensibly, working down into the home 22 and retaining the ball. Then, in the final play a well organised maul led to a score giving the bonus point from replacement Ben Avent.
Another satisfying win, and it is a great to be analysing performances from a winning position, and there is still a huge amount of work to be done to keep winning games, in what is a league where everyone can clearly beat everyone.
