*sorry the lateness of this everyone*
Hinckley showed some exciting moments in an 11 try game in Caldy on Saturday, with a well deserved bonus point achieved and confidence restored after last weeks disappointing game at Chester.
Caldy were well on top in the opening exchanges and managed to camp themselves inside the visitors territory. Although Hinckley defended well, there was eventually a converted opening score for the number 8 on 12 minutes. Hinckley however showers their attacking promise soon after, when George Cox finished an opportunity superbly from close range. Conor Buillivant converted.
The game then went through its only quiet spell but on 28 minutes Steve Harvey saw yellow for pulling down a maul and the numerical advantage at scrum time assisted Caldy in scoring a push over try. However close to straight from the restart some excellent build up work across the whole team created an opportunity for Mitch Lamb which he finished in the right hand corner to leave the score at 14-12.
A key moment of the game then came just on half time when the home side spotted a gap in the defensive line and raised through for their third score and a half time score of 21-12, a fair reflection although disappointing to concede on the whistle.
Coming out for the second half Caldy dominated territory and possession and with 15 minutes gone they had 2 more tries giving the home side a bonus point and a lead of 33-12.
Once Caldy had taken the game away from Hinckley a try bonus point became the key objective and with 11 minutes to go, a well executed catch and drive was finished by Ewan Bartlett to give time for Hinckley to leave with a well deserved point.
The final 10 minutes were very entertaining - unconcerned about conceding, Hinckley threw the ball around with at times complete abandon and this need help the home side score two more tries of their own however the tactic worked. Having won a penalty from a kick off and gone for a 5 metre lineout on the last play, a gap
Opened by for young fly half Callum Rowe to dart through a gap to score his first try for the 1st XV and the one which meant Hinckley left the Wirral with a point.
We now go into a season defining month - a positive month will mean all but mathematical safety with 2 months to go, a bad month and we get dragged back into the relegation battle. It all starts at home to Preston.
