Joe Wilson scored 22 points (try, 4 conversions and 3 penalties) with other tries from James Martin, Ben Marshall and Luke Coltman

Joe Wilson was the star of the show on Saturday, scoring 22 points in Hinckley's third successive win, and first over local rivals Leicester Lions since their return to National 2.

The value of a goalkicker was shown with Wilson's performance, with Lions ourscoring Hinckley on tries 6 to 4. However whilst Wilson kicked 7/7, Lions could only convert 2 of their 6 tries.

What was also particularly impressive about the win is that Hinckley were forced into a raft of changes for the game, with Mitch Lamb and Ben Avent missing out with concussion, Mitch Culpin missing with a back injury, Callum Rowe on holiday and Callum Dacey having to work. Scott Hamilton had also not recovered from the injury he picked up in the warm up last week. However the performance and win over their rivals who are without a win this year, shows the strength of the squad and the challenges facing the selectors on a weekly basis.

Wilson kicked the first points of the game from the 10 metre line after Lions infringed at the breakdown. However immediately from the kick off Lions managed to regain possession and having moved from right to left they came back for former Hinckley winger Devon Constant to score in the left hand corner.

Wilson then regained the lead after the first scrum penalty - an area where Lions have struggled so far this year.

It was 20 minutes till Hinckley got their first try, James Martin had a golden opportunity the play before when after his own chip and chase he couldn't ground the ball however from the next play Joe Glover fed the winger to finish in the right hand corner. Wilsons conversion left it at 13-5.

There was then a try each way before the break - first Ben Marshall drove over from a few metres out, with Wilsons conversion taking him to 100 points for the club in just his 10th game since joining from Nuneaton. Lions got their second try from a maul, and the half time score was 20-10.

After the break Lions dominated possession and territory and got rewards - a second try for tight play followed by a second for Constant, both converted by Biden put Lions ahead 24-20.

Back came Hinckley, and after a masterful kick from Joe Glover to make 40 metres out of nothing, Luke Coltman took up his normal place hanging at the back of the maul to score the third try.

The bonus point score was again made by Glover having one of his best games in a Hinckley shirt, taking a quick tap penalty on the halfway line and getting to the 22 before feeding Wilson to go over under the posts. The score was now 34-24 with around 15 to go.

Lions however weren't done - James Morgan skipped over down the right touchline and when Alex Smith went over the scores were tied at 34 all. However, another scrum penalty went Hinckleys way on 22 allowed Wilson to kick the home side to victory.

Next weeks outing sees Hinckley travelling to Manchester to take on Sedgley Park
