Hinckley started the game brilliantly, with a break from Alex Salt getting them into the 22 before Joe Glover picked up the loose ball and showed excellent vision and accuracy to instinctively put in a cross field kick which was gathered by James Martin to score after just a couple of minutes. Joe Wilson kicked his first conversion of the day.
However this work was undone within a couple of minutes when the home side made a line break, with Harry Maher scoring, and the conversion making it 7 all, with the home captain Riley, who made the break for the first try then going over himself after 10 minutes, the conversion making the score 14 – 7, although Wilson cut the gap to 4 with a penalty after 13 minutes.
The points didn’t stop coming, with Calum McShane darting over with just 15 minutes on the clock, with the conversion making it 21 – 10, and at this point one of the highest scoring games in a long time seemed to be on the cards.
Things did then calm down however, although the home side did score a bonus point before half time, with Riley again making the break this time feeding Maher to score, although Hinckley did manage to hang in the game going into half time, with Piotr Wisniewski scoring on the whistle.
When Glover then showed more evidence of his awareness by darting through a hole on 55 minutes, the game was back at 28 – 22 and despite looking well out of it, Hinckley were in the game, however 3 quick tries between the 60th and 70th minutes from the home side took the game well away. However they weren’t to come away with nothing, as Scott Hamilton muscled his way over in the last few minutes to ensure a bonus point was taken back to Leicestershire.
Next week Sheffield Tigers visit Leicester Road.
