After what feels like an age, following last weeks abandoned fixture against Sandbach, Hinckley scored their first league points of the season with a win in a wet, grey Scunthorpe on Saturday.
Hinckley were again forced into changes, particularly at fly - half with Mark Lord and Josh Smith unavailable, forcing a last minute loan deal to be sorted with the University of Nottingham to bring in Tom Walsh to wear the 10 jersey, meeting the player's for the first time at training on Thursday.
In truth, the game was poor - there was little continuity with the most phases coming with the first play of the game, the ball spent a lot of time off the field which is to be expected on Scunthorpe's relatively small pitch and the referees whistle dominated through infringements at the scrum and the lineout which meant the game never got into any flow.
Scunthorpe where 10 - 0 up inside 15 minutes, however that was the last points they were to score as Hinckley took control of the game, turning the penalty count in their favour and spending the majority of the rest of the game inside home territory. Walsh kicked a penalty for Hinckley to make it 10 - 3 on 21 minutes, before Joe Glover was set up by Tom Morris after 30 minutes. The half ended at 10 - 8, with 5 missed penalties between the two sides before half time.
Hinckley took the lead for the first half just after the break with Tom Morris going over in his first game since his return from Leicester Lions, leaving the score at 13 - 10, and as the half went on, take a short period where Scunthorpe had a couple of 5 metre scrums and lineouts, Hinckley where in control looking for the score in poor conditions which would take the game away from the homeside, which came with 5 minutes to go, with Glover scoring his 2nd from close range.
Next week South Leicester visit Leicester Road.
