Staghounds and Hunters put on a fine display

With no league game for the Staghounds this week the Staghounds and Hunters joined ranks for a short outing to Leicester Lions.

Staghounds started the game at a frantic pace and with both teams trading blow for blow it was looking to be a long afternoon of body on the line rugby! Forget England vs New Zealand this is where the action was at!

Hinckley put some points on the board early on as Craig Hastie scored first with some strong running for the Staghounds. Next up to get over the white was Tom Crawley with a superb 50m breakaway try, both tries well converted by the returning Matt Loveday. From there on in some simple mistakes and at times weak competition at the breakdown let lions put some points on the board! Undeterred though two more tries were added by Ed Allard and Matt Loveday himself who also converted one while just missing the other.

The second half continued in the same fashion as the first with big hits from both teams and not a inch being given in any area, most of the second half being equally matched. Towards the end Hinckley turned down points at penalty time and chased the converted try desperately needed for the win but at line out time a knock on lead to scrum ball. Ricky made a brave effort right at the end to get over the line but was held up by the Lions forwards. It was all over, close but no cigar! Staghounds are looking forward to the repeat fixture in the league with a full 2nd team outfit at home and surely a win!

Well done to Kitch and Ricky for their leadership in the game and everyone involved 2`s and 3`s for an overall superb performance, testament to the strength in depth at Hinckley RFC.

Man of the match went to Tom Crawley for his breakaway try and trademark strong runs into the opposition half.

Team: Elliot, Kitch (C), Ricky (c), Brezzo, Breeno, Mark, Aiden, Tom, Ash, Ross,Matt, Ed, Craig, Julian, Turk, Harrison, Andy and Ash.
