Young stags down a physical Burton side

It was a wet and windy day down in Burton and a tough challenge lay ahead for the stags

There were 10 changes to the stags side which played last week so was always going to be a test of character for the young side

From the kick off Hinckley put on the pressure and pinned Burton deep into their half, forcing them to give away countless penalties, from one penalty Hinckley kicked to touch to the Burton 5 meter line, from this Hinckley had a line out that unfortunately didn’t go to plan as Burton cowardly stood off the maul and forced Hinckley to give away a penalty. From this Burton cleared their lines.

Unfortunately Burton then put a few phases together and finally found a way through the Hinckley defence to score a try, fortunately the kick went wid.

From the restart Hinckley turned the ball over and applied a lot of pressure onto Burton forcing a penalty in the 22. The stags decided to go for the posts which was kicked by Lewis Gardner,

From the kick off it was end to end stuff eventually Hinckley coming out on top with cam coats diving over in the corner, this was topped off with Gardner adding the extras.

From the kick off Burton held the ball well but great defending from the boys in black and gold forced a penalty just before half time, the choice was to go for posts again to apply more pressure to the opponents, this was once again converted by Gardner, who was kicking well and that concluded the first half.

In the second half the weather conditions took a turn for the worst and the wind and rain made the conditions hard to play in.

Countless penalties from Burton gave Hinckley a chance to get into the opposition 22 and from that chance cam Coates put the Hinckley forwards on the Burton 5m line, with a bit of planning Moran through the ball into the line out for Arnold to take it, Arnold then hit the deck and realised that Burton thought they would be cleaver and stand off once again, but to there surprise Arnold was wise to this and ran hard with the ball to score in the corner, unfortunately the wind forced the kick wide from Lewis ,

After this Hinckley were against it and after Burton made countless changes they applied a lot off pressure onto Hinckley, unfortunately this led to them scoring two tries deep into the second half

I must say that the Hinckley boys put there body on the line in the second half and stood there ground and held Burton at bay for a large part of the second half.

From that the final whistle went and Hinckley was victorious with a 18-15 win against a strong physical Burton side

A shout out goes to Hinckley boys that put there body on the line and did us proud with a solid 80 min performance, it was a well deserved win.

Last shout out goes to Luke Johnson, this young man was magnificent, he carried hard, tackles hard and turned over ball all day for the stags, he was MOM not only by his own skipper but Burtons as well, well done baby jonno for your performance on the pitch and winning the boat race after the game.
