Saturday seen the stags host Burton at Leicester Road. The Stags were looking to continue their unbeaten league run after a dominate display last week.
Due to injuries and unavailability’s throughout the club there were 8 changes to the stag’s team this week with Debuts been given to Ben Deacon and Zac Mumford.
Straight from the kick-off Burton made it clear they were here to spoil the party with solid attacks from there forwards and backs alike
With this Hinckley found themselves 7-0 down and against it.
Several handling errors in the middle of the park and missed tackles allowed Burton to keep the pressure piled on the stags who uncharacteristically were off the pace and losing grip on the game.
After a sustained period of pressure burton again scored a converted try taking the scores to 14-0 which was a deserved lead for the visitors.
Hinckley did however manage to find themselves with some quick clean ball allowing Oli Sharkey to score with Ben Brogden adding the extras. This took Hinckley into the half time break 7-14 down and chasing the game.
The Stags needed to start strong in the 2nd half and they did just that. After a string of attacks George Marsden crashed over the line and after a successful kick it brought the game level to 14 – 14.
Hinckley continued to play, and they seemed to be getting a grip of the game moving the ball well between forwards and backs, as a reward Ben Brogden scored to put Hinckley in front for the first time. He converted his own try to take score to 21-14
Anyone watching would now think Hinckley will kick on and take game to Burton and see out the lead they had created…………. how wrong they would be.
Burton took matters into their own hands which seen the rest of the game controlled by the visitors. After a driving maul Burton attacked the Hinckley line and after a series of carries they went virtually untouched over for another 7-point score bringing the game to 21-21
Hinckley were now on the ropes and having fought themselves back into a winning position could possibly face their first loss of the season as Burton were full of confidence.
This wasn’t to be though; Hinckley did have a penalty which they opted for goal just inside the oppositions half which agonisingly drifted just wide of the posts.
This in all fairness would have been a killer blow as Burton more than deserved to share the spoils and will leave Leicester Road knowing this is a win they should have claimed and one that got away.
The visitors played with 14 men for over 40mins of the game due to 4 sinbin offences but give credit where its due their game management was excellent during this time.
For the stags to many errors and poor performances mean we escaped with a draw.
Only 2 players worth mentioning this week both who had solid games George Marsden and Ben Brogden
Star Man this week going to Ben Brogden who had a solid game with the boot
We move on and are back on the road next week against Bridgenorth, Up the Stags.
