Two Cups within a week for Hinckley Under 12's

Hinckley RFC Under 12's competed for the Phil Hodges Memorial Cup against Leicester Vipers on a blustery Wednesday evening 17/04/2013.

Eagerly awaiting parents and supporters formed a tunnel of applause to welcome Hinckley RFC and Leicester Vipers RFC under 12's to the field, with both teams playing on a full size pitch, and also fielding 15 man starting line ups for the very first time, this didn't phase the home side at all, as they got off to a flying start despite playing against a very strong breeze, the forwards continued their excellent recent form with strong running and ball retention, which allowed the pack to move deep inside their opponents half, and with the Vipers unable to cope with the pressure, Handford capitalised with the first score in the 4th minute, Webb with a valiant effort against the breeze failed to convert. Hinckley continued to pile on the pressure, Lockett carrying excellently into contact, and when the backs with new found space moved the ball confidently down the line, set up Dalby to run in his first score of the evening in the 13th minute, which Webb confidently slotted over the conversion.Nixon then ran in Hinckley's third after 19 minutes with a powerful drive for the line, before Webb crossed and converted in the 22nd minute to complete an excellent first half performance. Hinckley 24pts Vipers 0pts.

The second half continued with Hinckley putting their opponents under pressure, right from the kick off, and with only 2 minutes into the half Dalby pinned his ears back to run in his 2nd score and Hinckley's 5th . Hinckley's forward pack were immense at the breakdown and scrums winning everyone with ease, and when the ball found Dalby's hands once again inside his own half, ran in an excellent solo effort, and complete his Hat Trick, which O'brien cooly converted, this in only the 4th minute of the half. Hinckley's attacking threat then understandably slowed for the rest of the half, which allowed Vipers more time on the ball, although still found it hard to break the home sides defence, but they dug deep a crossed in the 16th minute. Hinckley ended the half with a long period of pressure just metres short of the line, but were unable to make it count, and when the final whistle blew, came a huge sigh of relief from the Vipers, and a huge cheer from the large number of home supporters. Hinckley 36pts Vipers 5pts.

After the match both teams enjoyed a meal together, before being presented with their club ties.
