Tamworth Tamed as Hinckley U14’s continued their great run of form. Match report by Alan Wainde

The day began with a minute’s silence which was perfectly observed by everyone at the Leicester Road ground.
With the formality’s over Hinckley kicked off the match and took control of the game. With some quick hands by Hinckley’s backs, JACQUES quickly darted through the Tamworth defence with blinding pace to score one of the quickest try’s this season, with only 42 seconds on the clock, DRAKEFORD then converted to put Hinckley in the driving seat with a 7-0 lead.

Straight from the restart Hinckley continued to push forward and almost scored a second with JACQUES being held just short of the line. Hinckley’s forwards won the scrum and the ball was quickly popped out by WAINDE to GILES then to JACQUES who rounded the posts to complete his second try of the match, with DRAKEFORD completing the conversion to make it 14-0.

By now Hinckley seemed to take their foot of the gas and allowed Tamworth to retain possession. With loose handling coming from both sides, Tamworth started to make good ground within Hinckley’s half and notable tackles by HUTTON ,BUCKLER, and MENSFORTH-GROVE prevented the rout. Tamworth held strong and won the resulting rucks and were rewarded with a try to get them back in the game with the conversion missed the score now 14-5.

Tamworth now looked full of confidence and were attacking Hinckley with their powerful runners and strong scrums. The Hinckley forwards persistence paid off and finally got the turnover which was quickly launched out to ALLEN who made ground to pass to BURTON who ran through several tackles to run the ball over the line for try number 3 and with DRAKEFORD on fine form the conversion was inch perfect, to make it 21-5.
Hinckley made several changes at half time and looked to press Tamworth from the restart. Hinckley gained possession and with quick hands from SMITH and MOORE the ball was shipped to BARNES to complete the move and score try number 4. The conversion by DRAKEFORD making it 28-5.
Hinckley now looked to have found their rhythm and were playing some simply lovely rugby with the passing being more controlled and accurate the team was growing in confidence. Hinckley broke free with ALLEN who’s quick pace raced through the posts to complete the try, DRAKEFORD again converted to make it 35-5.

With the clock ticking Hinckley continued to grow in strength and were now winning each scrum, with quick hands through the backs, FOUNTAINE took his chance to round his opponent and score his first try of the day, with the conversion missed the score was now 40-5.

Hinckley continued to dominate the game and passed the ball brilliantly between the backs who were rewarded with ALLEN driving through to score his second try of the morning which was again converted by DRAKEFORD, the score now 47-5.

Tamworth restarted the game and found their way in Hinckley’s half and with some superb play finally broke Hinckley’s defence to score, with the conversion missed the score was now 47-10.

Tamworth continued to push Hinckley back in the dying minutes, but the defence stood strong and held them off until the final whistle. Final score 47-10
