Hinckley Under 9's fielded two evenly balanced teams (Lions & Tigers) against a Market Bosworth A and B team

Hinckley Lions were up first against the weaker team from Bosworth and we started off with excellent defensive play forcing Bozzie into touch countless times leading to them making panicky mistakes which Hinckley made the most of. All players had some great time with ball in hand, Guest touching down first for the home team. Deacon having a storming day with some brilliant weaving and plenty of time taking the ball into tackles. Burtons first of his 3 tries of the match was set up by Deacon and Guest doing all the hard work and handing to Burton to pop it over the line barging the odd player out of the way. Nugget, Barnes, Calver and Buckler providing their trust worthy and reliable tackling skills, tackling numerous players into touch to wow the crowd with Barnes and Nugget running the entire length of the pitch to score tries from great handling.

Barnes' second try of the half was scored by a Bosworth player mistaking the halfway line for their try line, quick thinking Barnes scooped up the ball and trotted over the line to rack up another one for u9s. Buckler crossed over the whitewash with Drakeford playing a part in the scoring and HRFC finished the first half leading 5 tries to 1. The second half started with the team trying to gee up their handling skills only to display some uncharacteristic sideways running, our tackling remained strong though with text book tackling from Burton, Buckler, Barnes and our resident 'oh so high' tackler Guest. Burton proved that he wasn't just a lump of a forward in the making by 2 flying length of pitch runs leading to rewarding diving tries. The game wasn't quite as flowing as the first half due to Bosworth constantly being penalised for offside and they were static for a long time with dogged defence from Hinckley forcing Bosworth to set up camp on the halfway line. Carvell stepped up to the scoreboard to notch up his first try of the season with a great and determined run. Topping off an excellent high scoring game Salisbury was set up by a weaving Burton to score a great try on the corner quickly followed by another. Fab performance put in by the lads finishing 11-1.

Our second game was not quite so fruitful on the try front. With such a big victory in the first half, the Lions went to sleep, displaying shocking tackling which led to all of Bozzies tries, we threw high and erratic balls and we didn't wake up until the last 4 minutes of the game. When we did make yards it was hard work as this total team change that we faced were clearly the far better team. Only 2 tries were scored in the first half as opposed to their 3, which was quite a flattering score to us. Salisbury and Barnes the try scorers both working hard for their team. Lots of running along side the opposition resulted in Bosworth chalking up more easy, soft tries which could have been avoided. Lions had a stern half time talk about waking up and when they eventually did, we saw the Hinckley of old fighting back from 2-5 down to a final score of 6-6.

Fabulous display of tackling by Barnes, Drakeford, Salisbury, Burton, Guest, Calver and Buckler.

Try scorers of the morning for Lions Salisbury 5, Burton & Barnes 3 each, Buckler & Drakeford 2 each, Guest & Carvell 1 apiece

Hinckley Tigers faced Bosworth’s stronger side first and came out with all guns blazing. Brilliant tackling from the whole team (Moore, Cowling, Goodwin, Hurley-Smith, Mensforth-Grove and both Whittingham's) forced numerous turnovers, from bozzie spilling the ball in the tackle and being driven into touch. Tigers quickly took the lead with tries from Moore, L. Whittingham and A. Whittingham's first competitive try of his rugby career. Bosworth managed a single try in the first half , which was followed by another from L. Whittingham, Tigers going into the break 20-5 up.
Half time changes (Duggins for Goodwin, Smith for Cowling and Perry for L.Whittingham) didn’t deter Tiger’s domination of the game. Strong tackling, along with good straight running resulting in Tigers never looking like losing the game, however Bozzie did managed 3 tries in the second half. The boys put into practice moving the ball out wide especially a long pass from Smith putting Moore into space to run in the easiest try of the day. A fantastic weaving run from Hurley-Smith resulting in Tigers 6th try and game over Tigers 30 Bosworth 20. A convincing victory from the Hinckley boys which was never in doubt.

Tigers Second game of the day was against a weaker Bosworth side who struggled to cope with Hinckley strong tackling and straight running. Tigers ran in 5 unanswered tries to go into half time 25 –0. First half try scorers were Whittingham 2, Moore, Smith and Perry’s first try of the season. The second half was much the same with total domination by the Hinckley boys. Four more unanswered tries resulting in the game being stopped 2 minutes early Hinckley winning 45-0. Second half try scorers were another 1 for Moore L.Whittingham completing his hattrick, Hurley-Smith and Duggins breaking through the defence at the half way line and powering his way to the try line for a fantastic solo try.
The teams were mixed up for the final 2 minutes with Moore scoring twice for Bosworth and A.Whittingham for Hinckley.

Overall a fantastic days rugby from both Hinckley teams, which was sweet revenge for when they last met Bosworth at Syston festival.
