Match Report, U8’s vs. Kenilworth 06/11/2013

Last time Kenilworth were under this much pressure was in 1266, but Hinckley were coming to take no prisoners!
Match one started well, with Hinckley winning the toss and making their opening effort the first try, thanks to Causon. Simmons added two more and Special K one to make the half time scoreline 4-2 to Hinckley. Hinckley took 34 confirmed tags, a solid defence, notably from Causon, Doyle and Simmons. Kenilworth made in-roads, pushing back five tries during the second half, but met with two more tries each for Causon and Doyle and more solid tagging from those same players. Final score line 8-7 to Hinckley.
Match two saw Hinckley meet a physical defence from Kenilworth Stockton, Middleton, Dunne and Cooper all taking tries. Hinckley found the tags to turn-over the ball twice, with no shortage of tags from Cooper, Abrahamson, Dunne, Fisher, Middleton and Stockton. Stockton appeared to become a “Weeble” as he got knocked over more times, but kept on bouncing back! Final score 6-3 to Hinckley.
Match three began with grinding of teeth from Kenilworth, readying themselves to escape Hinckley’s grip on the fixtures. The first half saw 4 turnovers go Hinckley’s way. Simmons was on fire taking 11 tags in this half, and scoring a try. Special K took another try and made the scoreline 2-2 at half-time. Kenilworth came out fired up and the tagging pace set off at a terrific rate. Hinckley showed tired legs and soon Kenilworth had snatched a couple of turnovers and were 4-2 up – how did that happen?! Hinckley dug in and made us proud by scoring 4 further tries to only a further one from Kenilworth. Moore, Curless, Causon, Doyle scored tries, Gamble, Curless, Causon, Doyle, Stokes and Moore all contributed to solid defence tagging. Final score 6-5 to Hinckley.
Finally match four started and Kenilworth wanted some crumbs badly. The first half score sheet looks ominous at half time, with 0-0 showing. Hicks, Cooper and Stockton show their usual tagging flair to keep Kenilworth at bay, helped by Abrahamson, Deacon and Middleton. Second half, Coach Simmons has given the team a rocket, and the tries start to come. Middleton scores two and Dunne adds another, but turnovers are matched like for like, and Kenilworth keep pace. Cooper takes the award for most tags in this half, followed by Middleton. The result is in...a 3-3 draw, hard fought by both teams.

Across all the matches, some of the strongest performances given by most players who were there. Well done kids!
