Sunday a day of rest?

With several players achieving seven games played out of a possible seven fixtures, the coaches opted to rest them. This allowed a great mix of established and new talent to showcase their skills today. Lichfield and Hinckley both had only nine players, so rotation was the key.

Game one began with all players keen to get warmed up and started. Hinckley came out defending from early Lichfield attacks to gain turnovers from 6+ tags and running the opposition in to touch. Causon (2), Palmer (2) and Stockton (1) capitalised on gaps in the Lichfield defense to put five on Hinckley’s scoreboard to two tries from Lichfield. Palmer deserves a note for a wonderful side-stepping run to score from the centre line. High tagging levels were seen this half - Halka, Farrell and Fisher kept the door firmly closed to any attack. The second half began in the same vein as the first, with Hinckley taking the opening try via a strong run from Farrell, after bouncing off a Lichfield player with the first attempt. Again, we saw plenty of turnover ball from running in to touch and 6+ tags. Doyle, Hicks, Palmer, Farrell, Halka all got a further try apiece, Palmer, Halka, Hicks and Doyle all taking multiple tags. Final score 10-6 to Hinckley.

Game two began with more spirit from Hinckley, sometimes spilling over in to “physical” tagging. Lichfield made one try midway through the half, but nothing could stop the Hinckley juggernaut. Doyle (1), Stockton (2) and Fisher (2) left Hinckley firmly in charge of the scoreboard at half time. Fisher gets special mention for a ¾ pitch solo run. Stockton (new nickname "weeble") was everywhere getting knocked over and back up again as usual, helped by Doyle, Fisher, Hicks and Causon in the tagging duties. 5-1 at half-time. Doyle (2), Palmer (2) and Halka (1) repeated the first half scoreline to Lichfields one try in reply again. Halka truly showed what he was capable of in this half, taking four tags as well as his clinical try. Farrell took three personal tags and positioned himself well in support. Final score 10-2 to Hinckley.
Back to the Clubhouse for a big slice of winning pie, well deserved!
