A close encounter.

The match had to be re-scheduled today as the pitches at Market Bosworth were waterlogged, so Hinckley had home advantage for this fixture. Two squads totalling 21 payers turned up from Hinckley and around 10 for Bosworth.

First match saw a strong defence from Market Bosworth create quick opportunities to make an impact on the score sheet. In this half alone, MB made three 7-tag turnover balls. Hinckley was not to be forgotten though and the final five minutes of the half saw them get on the score sheet care of Doyle (2) and Fisher (1). Half time score line was 5-3 to Bosworth. Cheshire took his debut tag too. The second half saw a change of players and the half time team talk certainly kick-started Hinckley’s defence. Dunne scored a personal hat-trick (including a fantastic full-pitch solo run) and Halka added one more. Tagging duties were taken up by Simmons, Doyle, Dunne, Halka, Kime and Biggs, making the Hinckley try line a harder proposition for Bosworth. Bosworth only added a further two tries, making the final score line 7-7. A well-deserved draw. The coaches and spectators were all impressed with the team’s ability to get back in to the match from being behind – well played Hinckley.

Second match and a new Hinckley squad took to the pitch. The match began with a very different feel, and the results to show. Despite run after run from a very strong Bosworth attack, Hinckley took plenty of tags to deny them a score. Equally, Bosworth did the same and the half time whistle went with a 1-1 score line provided by Bennett’s sole successful try for Hinckley. Half time talk done and the team came out determined to pass out wide from when a player was tagged. This certainly opened up the wings to attack and Middleton, Causon, Stokes and Moore all took a try a piece as their prize. Bosworth matched Hinckley try for try and the final score line was a 5-5 draw. Again, a fair result for the effort and performance.

Third match was played to kill a final 10-15 minutes before the clubhouse beckoned. All players got a chance to rotate in for a quick 15 minutes (played in three five minute slots). First up were Marston, Causon, Stokes, Cheshire, Hicks and Dunne. Causon took the lion’s share of tags and kept Bosworth at bay to leave the score line 4-2 courtesy of Causon, Hicks and Dunne (2) tries. Second “half” was taken up by Simmons, Middleton, Biggs, Cooper, Halka and Curless. Bosworth were determined to make their mark in the five minutes and held Hinckley to a 3-3 score line. Simmons took a personal hat-trick whilst tagging came from Simmons, Middleton, Cooper and Curless (despite injury to Curless). The third “half” and Moore, Chase, Gamble, Fisher, Kime and Bennett were in the mud. Moore took the only try and again, Hinckley met the Bosworth score line to make a 1-1 finale.
