Ashby, wet and cold, with 15 lads available at the first whistle. This week the shoe was on the other foot, 2 subs, 25 minutes and two half’s of rugby. Ashby playing with a squad of 19. Hinckley made the first try but Ashby soon responded, it looked to be a close game.
Ashby unleashed a few key runners from their pack and seemed to have the run on us with both subs used in the first 15 minutes, but Hinckley still have players who can run. By half time the teams were equal and Hinckley had begun to work better together. 4 each ?
A rare Red card was presented to an Ashby player, our lads held our discipline. ?
In to the second and the closely contested theme continued but the game closed down a little, cold and fatigue beginning to show. Despite some great attacks the tries were not coming for us and Ashby went ahead.
The game ended without us getting a final run at them despite being awarded a penalty.
8:5 to Ashby.
In truth it was a very close game, well reffed and a good test for a smaller squad. 1 or 2 more players fancying a run up the centre would have made all the difference. But a positive performance in poor conditions, I look forward to playing them again at home in the new year!
Well done to all, a big test today and we all survived with smiles! ?
