Game 2 Old Coventrians

After a late withdrawal by Oakham, a new fixture was quickly arranged against old foes Old Coventrians. A team who have matched us well over the last few years. A much changed starting line up from last weeks win saw players starting for the first time this year.
As expected Old Covs matched us up all over the park. A fast start saw both teams fiercely contesting the ball whilst trying to create space for the backs. The first breakthrough was for OC's scoring under the posts. Hinckley countered with a ball picked up from the base and ran in from a full 60m and placed under the posts, which was followed by an assured conversion 7:7. More strong player from both sides at the breakdown and the forwards taking it through the phases saw Hinckley start to take the upper hand and get there rewards with with another try under the post’s with another conversion, half time and Hinckley 14-7 up. After the break and with both sides having made changes the battle was restarted, Old Covs finally getting the upper hand with a try and successful conversion. Both teams battled throughout the half with strong scrummaging and good support play at the break down, putting Hinckley on the front foot with another try following good phases of play pinning the opposition back creating the space for a break through another successful conversion putting Hinckley 21-14 up with just 13 minutes to. OC's dug deep and really went for the win with an unconverted try in the corner 21-19 with minutes to go. OC's continued to apply the pressure but Hinckley’s defensive line refused to yield and forced a knock on, to turn over the ball and end the game with a second win.
The only cloud for Hinckley being an injury to Riley who we send our best to for a speedy recovery!
Next week training and then on to the U14’s County cup first round against Bosworth.
